sometimes we give ourselves chills
Poet Gil Scott-Heron has left this earth. We blogged a reference to his fiery “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” just a few hours before his unexpected death – that’s how relevant his spoken-song poem seemed to us.
While the purpose of this blog is not to chat about celebrities, this one gave us a little chill.
Many young hip-hop artists today cite Scott-Heron, who passed away at age 62, as a powerful influence. The artist created more than a dozen albums, leading some music industry icons to call him “The Godfather of Rap”—a commercialized title he brusquely rejected. Don’t know the name? Download and add the MP3 to your iPod, and prepare to be revolutionized.
