  • Q:

Do any of your skincare products contain SLS
Asked on 11/20/2016 by Debbie from Aurora, Colorado

      A:

      Dear Debbie,

On occasion, the press publishes an article which falsely states that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), ingredients used primarily in "rinse off" cosmetic products, are unsafe. The truth of the matter is, there is no evidence of harm from the use of either SLS or SLES as used in cosmetic products.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR), an organization of independent medical professionals and scientists, has fully assessed the safety of these ingredients and found them to be safe to use in formulations designed for brief use followed by thorough rinsing from the surface of the skin. Based on the scientific evidence and evaluation of the CIR, it is the conclusion of the International Dermal Institute that the use of Sodium Laureth Sulfate is safe to use in Dermalogica products when used in rinse off products such as cleansers.

      Kind Regards,
      The Dermalogica Team

  • Q:

I suffer from oily skin & frequent breakouts- Most recently cystic breakouts on my forehead. However, I am always dry in the cheeks. I find that when I treat my skin for the oily/breakout, my cheeks become red & dehydrated. Is this a good product to try, or should I find something different? Thanks!
